Fast forward to the present and it is incredible to see the tremendous changes in materials, techniques and options available to all our patients. Through all of that time, the one constant that does not change is the basic philosophy which I have always followed: To always treat our patients and our team with care and respect, and to recognize and look after their dental needs as if they were family.
My clinical “mission” in these times is to practise minimal intervention dentistry, and to this end, I have attended recent post graduate education courses involving Veneers, Lumineers, Invisalign and a totally new concept of Snap-on Smile. A great way to rejuvenate your smile without picking up a drill! I enjoy many aspects of dentistry but do have special interests in cosmetic dental work, crown and bridgework, and, totally at the other end of the dental spectrum, rise to the challenge of removal of most impacted wisdom teeth. Combined with many years of experience, I have always pursued more knowledge in practice management and improving practice systems for both patients and the clinical team via six years of supervision under a Prime Practice mentor programme to produce our own “Practice of Excellence”. Recently, I qualified via University of Qld postgraduate course to take extra oral radiographs including cone beam volumetric tomography and I have attended tutorials to refine the use of this new technology with a few of my colleagues.
Life isn’t all about dentistry and I have been married to Cathy for over thirty-one years with three adult children (no dentists there!), a son-in-law, a beautiful granddaughter and two Maltese-Shitzu dogs. We enjoy travelling to unusual places in the world with local guides and are hoping to make it to Turkey next. I have a barrista certificate; enjoy cooking and the odd game of golf on the side. My other passion is to ride motorbikes on a regular basis and we have road trips planned in 2011 and 2012 with a few other biker friends which is a world away from dentistry.
I joined Dr. Paul Close and the Close Dental Team in August 2009 after a very short “pseudo-retirement” and found their practice philosophy was a perfect match… and the rest is becoming history.
