We're excited here at Close Dental, and we'd like to share our excitement with you. After all, it is the wonderful people who come through our door each day who make Close Dental the place it is today.
Dr Paul Close graduated in 1976 from the University of Qld. After gaining experience at the Brisbane Dental Hospital, Dr Close traveled to England and worked in a very busy practice for 2 years before returning in 1980.
In 1981 a younger, enthusiastic Dr Paul Close decided it was time to make an impact on the dental health of his local community. With that in mind he opened the doors to his own dental practice at Eagle Junction. Many of you would remember the very modest establishment, which serviced his patients until 1986. Dr Close realised at this point, due to the growth and success of his practice, it was time to move to larger premises.
So another space was soon transformed into a modern, functional dental practice at Clayfield Courtyard on Sandgate Road. Due to Dr Close's personal attention, and exceptional dentistry, it was apparent that the practice needed another dentist who would impart the same enthusiasm and standard of care.
In 1991 Dr Ralph Kelsey joined Dr Close to form the partnership which lead to Care Dental. Eight years on, it was obvious again that to meet the needs of the patients and the changing face of dentistry, more space was desirable. The old Clayfield Post Office site was deemed suitable and allowed Dr Close and Dr Kelsey to accommodate all the features they believed were necessary for a dental practice in the 21st century. In addition, the name Care Dental was adopted to reflect the ideals and aims of the dynamic team. In January 2006, Dr Kelsey moved on and it was decided Care Dental would be renamed “Close Dental”. Our aims have not changed, our team and practice will continue to deliver “traditional care…. with modern dentistry”.
Dr Hayden Stewart, Dr Cate Gerber and Dr Tom Oliver assist Dr Close in providing the exceptional level of service that the patients of Close Dental are accustomed to. Dr Close started extensive training in implantology in 1991 and worked with a leading American dentist who specialized in the Restorative/Rehabilitation of complete mouths in 1992. Paul attends continuing education seminars, courses and spends an average of 10 days per year furthering his education. The latest training he has been involved in is Laser Dentistry. He has been president of the implant society (Qld Branch) and is activity involved in his study association. He is an active member of the ADA (Qld).
Dr Close has five children (four boys and a girl) and enjoys music, golf and reading.
We want your teeth to last a lifetime!
In the 80's there was a dramatic shift in dentistry towards prevention. More was known about diseases of the mouth and how we could improve oral health. Gone were the days of drilling and filling. Changes in legislation allowed Dental Hygienists to work with dentists to educate patients and prevent diseases of the mouth. For Dr Close and his team, it was an important step that they integrate a Dental Hygienist into the team. It was just prior to moving into the Close Dental office, that their first Dental Hygienist arrived to give our patients a new reason for “going to the dentist”. We are very proud of our Dental Hygienists at Close Dental and the high level of care they provided our patients. We can confidently say too, our practice delivers more preventive dentistry than most dental practices in Queensland.
Thank you to you, our patients, for taking on our beliefs in the direction of dentistry.
