For many years, the only filling material available was the silver amalgam filling. Research has shown this weakens teeth in large areas and is not aesthetic.
Current technology has enabled us to replace the old silver fillings with porcelain inlays that strengthen the teeth (to prevent fractures) and enables the dentist to restore the natural appearance of back teeth.
Gum health is also significantly improved as small ledges around silver fillings are removed and it becomes easier to floss.
Close Dental has not used amalgam material for over 14 years. We have chosen to use tooth coloured materials instead, as this gives our patients the benefit of having a more natural look and a whiter smile.
